ALTOONA, Pa. — Kicking off the unofficial start to summer, Sheetz will be selling its new craft beer starting at 4 p.m. EST May 28 just ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.

The Altoona, Pa.-based convenience-store chain is launching I Scream, Brew Scream, a milkshake India Pale Ale, at 489 of its 622 stores across Pennsylvania, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia. I Scream, Brew Scream was made by Sheetz in partnership with Chicago-based brewer Goose Island. The beer was brewed with strawberry and banana puree and features a light and fruity taste with a bit of hop to balance the sweetness, according to Sheetz.

Four-packs of 16-ounce cans will retail for $7.99 and will be available while supplies last—each store will carry approximately 30 four-packs. A 16-ounce can has 6.8% ABV.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Goose Island Beer Co., one of the most successful breweries in the entire country, to create this delicious milkshake beer for our customers,” said Ryan Sheetz, vice president of marketing and brand at Sheetz. “These last 14 months have been tough for all of us and as things start to improve in our communities, we’re hopeful this beer can lift the spirits of our customers as we embark on an exciting summer season.”

This isn’t Sheetz’ first craft beer partnership. In September, it released an own-label beer called Project Watt-Ahh-Melon Ring with Richmond, Va.-based Hardywood Park Craft Brewery. It also partnered with Wicked Weed Brewing Co., Asheville, N.C., in November for a Project Happy Hole-idayz beer, brewed with Shweetz Glazed Vanilla Donut holes.

“Sheetz has released some fun, unique beers over the past year and we’re excited to brew this milkshake IPA with them,” said Todd Ahsmann, president of Goose Island Beer Co. “This IPA is brewed with Sheetz Bros. strawberry and banana puree and leaves the drinker with classic summertime flavors.”
