ALTOONA, Pa. — Sheetz and Neshaminy Creek Brewing Co. have released a limited-edition craft beer brewed with a unique ingredient.

Project Hop Dog, a 5.5% ABV India Pale Ale, is made “with a ceremonial addition of Sheetz Hot Dogz in the brew kettle just for fun,” according to the Altoona, Pa.-based convenience-store chain.

“We were really excited to collaborate on a beer to celebrate Sheetz Hot Dogz and the beginning of summer,” said Jason Ranck, head brewer at Croydon, Pa.-based Neshaminy Creek. “Don’t worry—the beer does not taste like hot dogs. We thought it was just a fun concept and the perfect beer for pairing with Sheetz Hot Dogz and warm weather activities.”

The beer is sold at 128 Sheetz stores across Pennsylvania and available in 16-ounce four-packs for $7.99. Project Hop Dog is refreshing and dry, with delicate hop flavors of citrus and pine, according to Sheetz.

“We hope our latest limited-edition craft beer is a fun surprise for our customers, a surprise that’ll engender smiles, laughter and conversation—something we could all use more of right now,” said Ryan Sheetz, assistant vice president of brand strategies. “In light of the health crisis, we gave a lot of consideration to releasing Project Hop Dog. We are doing everything we can to ensure the health and safety of our employees and customers.”

Customers should respect health guidelines put in place to stop the spread of the coronavirus and wear a face mask while purchasing the beer, Sheetz said.

This isn’t the chain’s first craft beer. Sheetz partnered with Rusty Rail Brewing Co. in spring 2019 to create Project Coffee Hopz. The coffee bean IPA was available for a limited time in 55 Sheetz locations.

Sheetz is No. 14 on the Top 40 update to CSP’s 2019 Top 202 ranking of U.S. c-store chains by number of retail outlets. CSP will release the complete 2020 list in June.
