WAWA, Pa. -- Convenience-store retailer Wawa has released its first branded beer in partnership with 2SP Brewing Co., Aston, Pa.

Wawa Winter Reserve Coffee Stout is an oatmeal stout beer steeped with Wawa's new limited-edition Winter Blend coffee. Brewed by Bob Barrar, head brewer at 2SP Brewing Co., in partnership with Michael McLaughlin, product development manager and “World Traveling Coffee Guru” for Wawa, the seasonal brew boasts flavors of sweet clove, dark chocolate and graham crackers, according to the companies.

Before it is officially on sale, Wawa will host a tapping event where the first 50 cases will be available to purchase on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to two four-packs per person. The tapping event will take place Dec. 6 at Wawa’s Chadds Ford, Pa., store. Wawa’s Chadds Ford location is the only Wawa in Pennsylvania that sells beer, according to the company.

Cans of the Winter Reserve Coffee Stout will officially be available to purchase the week of Dec. 10 through Origlio Beverage at neighborhood bars, bottle shops and distributers in the five Philadelphia county areas. Only 1,000 cases will be available, the company said.

“At Wawa, supporting our local neighbors is at the heart of everything we do, which makes our special partnership with 2SP so crucial at our Chadds Ford store,” said Mike Sherlock, chief product marketing officer for Wawa Inc. “We are both happy to call Delaware County our hometown, and we’re excited to team up to create a Winter Reserve Coffee Stout using our new limited-edition Wawa Reserve Winter Blend, allowing us to add even more value to our customer experience just in time for the holidays.”

Wawa Reserve is a new line of small-batch, specialty-grade coffees. The beans used to make these special varieties follow a strict industry classification and are chosen according to overall cup quality, consistency and the unique characteristics of their country of origin. Since January, Wawa has offered Kenya AA, 100% Tanzania and Peru Amazonas coffees. Throughout the year, Wawa plans to offer additional Wawa Reserve limited-time offers, including this season’s limited-edition Winter Blend coffee. This four-origin bean blend is sourced from the world’s finest coffee regions and offered exclusively from Wawa Reserve.

Wawa, Pa.-based Wawa Inc. is a privately held convenience-store chain. With nearly 800 stores, Wawa ranked No. 9 in CSP's 2018 Top 202 list of the largest chains in the country.
