7-Eleven celebrates 82nd U.S. anniversary; 40th in Canada
DALLAS -- 7-Eleven Inc. is kicking off its July 11 (7/11) "National Slurpee Day" celebration in Los Angeles the night before by giving away a one-year supply of Slurpees to the first 100 fans who line up at the North Hollywood, Calif., store located on Vineland Ave. and Vanowen St. 7-Eleven traditionally celebrates company and product anniversaries each year on July 11.

This year marks the 82nd anniversary of 7-Eleven. 7-Eleven Canada is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The world's largest c-store retailer started as an ice dock in suburban Dallas in 1927 and now has more [image-nocss] than 34,300 stores in 14 countries.

7-Eleven stores will give away three million free Slurpees nationwide this year, the company said. Free 7.11-oz. Slurpees will be available at more than 7,500 participating 7-Eleven stores in the United States and Canada while supplies last.

In Los Angeles, it will raffle off additional prizes throughout the evening, which will feature live entertainment. Fans can line up starting at 7:00 p.m. and the one-year supply of Slurpees will be given out at 11:00 p.m.

Stores in Los Angeles and surrounding counties are holding 7-Eleven Block Parties, the company said.

7-Eleven, still based in Dallas, operates franchises or licenses approximately 7,600 7-Eleven stores in North America. During 2007, 7-Eleven stores worldwide generated total sales of more than $46.6 billion.
