Stewart's Shops Launches Its Own Craft Beer

High Cliff joins budget brand Mountain Brew on store shelves

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. --Stewart’s Shops launched an exclusive craft beer just in time for the Independence Day holiday.

The convenience-store retailer worked with beer maker Shmaltz Brewing Co. of nearby Clifton Park, N.Y., to develop High Cliff India Pale Ale exclusively for sale in the chain.

“This is our own private-label beer produced by a local brewer,” spokesperson Maria D’Amelia told CSPDaily News. “Craft beer is a growing segment for us and we’re adding beer caves when we build new stores. So this is a nice addition to our [beer] lineup.”

High Cliff, sold for $8.99 per six-pack, was released July 3, joining Stewart’s Shops’ proprietary budget beer Mountain Brew, which debuted in 2010.

Early trial has drawn positive comments on Stewart’s Facebook page:

Ballston Spa, N.Y.-based Stewart's Shops operates more than 330 c-stores in New York and Vermont.
