Stroh's Brings Back Bohemian-Style Pilsner

Line extension based on recipe from the late 1800s

DETROIT -- The Stroh Brewery Co. expanded its beer offering with the return this week of Stroh’s Bohemian-style Pilsner.

The new/old beer returned to the Stroh's stable Aug. 22, once again being brewed in Detroit, where the brewery was founded in 1850.

“Stroh’s is Detroit,” said Dan McHugh, chief marketing officer of Los Angeles-based Pabst Brewing Co., which owns Stroh Brewery Co. “By reintroducing Stroh’s Bohemian-style Pilsner and brewing in the city, we are tapping into the history and heritage of Stroh’s and the innovation and hard work of the people of Detroit.”

The original Stroh’s Bohemian-style Pilsner earned the highest awards at the World’s Fair in Chicago in 1893. The new version is inspired by the Stroh’s recipe from the late 1800s.

“The beer is a crisp, balanced pilsner with a floral aroma, subtle hop spice and a rich, bready maltiness made from Saaz and Magnum hops and Vienna malt,” said brewmaster Greg Deuhs.

Stroh’s Bohemian-style Pilsner will complement Stroh’s Lager and Stroh’s Light brands in Michigan. It has 5.5% alcohol by volume and 33 IBUs (international bitterness units). It is now available in specially designed 12-ounce bottles and on draft in Michigan restaurants, bars and retail stores.
