Four flavors aim to capitalize on category growth, consumer trends

CAMDEN, N.J. -- With healthy-attributes increasingly cited as a reason for choosing a beverage and with vegetable-juice drink sales on the rise in convenience stores, Campbell Soup Co., the makers of V8, has introduced new V8 Vegetable and Fruit Juice Beverages, blends of vegetables with a touch of fruit. The new varieties have no added sugar or artificial ingredients, are 60 calories or less and became available nationwide in January.

These colorful beverages are blended with a variety of vibrant colored vegetables and fruit:

  • Healthy Greens: the juices of spinach, yellow carrots, apples and pineapple
  • Purple Power: the juices of purple carrots, beets and apple
  • Golden Goodness: the juices of sweet potatoes, yellow carrots, orange carrots and orange
  • Carrot Mango: the juices of carrot and mango

The sale of canned vegetable-juice drinks grew a tremendous 73% in c-stores in 2014, according to IRI data, while fruit-juice drinks have seen much more moderate growth.

“With this new line, we set out to meet the changing tastes and healthier lifestyle needs of consumers by delivering juice blends that are delicious, with a more desirable ingredient panel, namely the presence of vegetable nutrition,” said Kelli McCusker, vice president of Beverage at Campbell Soup Co. “We love the ‘juicing’ trend because that is what we have always been about at V8. This launch combines our vegetable-blending heritage with a growing behavior and brings it to consumers in accessible, affordable and delicious ways so everyone can participate.”

Each of the new flavors offer invigorating taste, are packed with essential antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E, are 60 calories or less, deliver one serving of vegetables and are made from 75% juice and 25% water with no added sugar, preservatives or artificial colors and flavors.

The new juice beverages are now available in multi-serve 46-oz. and single-serve 12-oz. sizes at major grocery and convenience-store locations nationwide at a suggested retail price of $3.99 and $1, respectively.
