Zevia Grows Into 2 New Categories
Beverage maker expands on its 'zero-calorie, naturally sweetened' strategy
LOS ANGELES -- After positioning itself as an alternative to mainstream diet sodas, Zevia is expanding the reach of its "zero-calorie, naturally sweetened" value proposition into two new beverage categories: energy drinks and sparkling waters.
The new beverage lines will complement the brand’s existing 90% share of the natural zero-calorie soda market in the United States, according to the company, citing SPINS/IRI data.
"Reducing sugar is one of the largest dietary shifts occurring in the U.S., and Zevia sees familiar beverage categories as an easy place to start," the company said. "Both product lines present an opportunity for the company to offer new beverage alternatives as consumers around the world are becoming increasingly aware of the health risks associated with excess sugar consumption."
Zevia Energy will come in single-serve, 12-ounce slim cans with 120 mg of natural caffeine and a suggested retail price of $1.99 per can. It will be available in three flavors: Mango Ginger, Raspberry Lime and Grapefruit.
“We all love the boost we get from caffeine, but current energy drinks on the market are loaded with either sugar or artificial sweeteners, as well as a bunch of exotic supplements,” said Paddy Spence, CEO of Zevia. “We created a line with zero calories, 120 mg of caffeine from coffee extract, sweetened with stevia, and no additional supplementation. It’s a better-for-you option in a category that has not been known for healthy ingredients.”
Zevia Sparkling Water, to be sold in eight-packs with a suggested retail price of $5.99, will come in four flavors: Lime, Blackberry, Cucumber Lemon and Mandarin Orange.
“Flavored sparkling water has become very popular, but for many of us, these unsweetened products just don’t deliver from a taste perspective,” Spence said. “A little sweetness, from stevia, along with zero calories, no sugar and Non-GMO Project-verified flavors, makes sparkling water come to life.”
The new drinks will be available at retail beginning in July.
