7-Eleven, Coca-Cola Pull Diet Coke Slurpee

"Freezing consistency issues" prompt removal of product

DALLAS & ATLANTA --7-Eleven Inc. has discontinued its Diet Coke FROST Cherry Slurpee, launched with The Coca-Cola Co. in late February, over "freezing consistency issues," CSP Daily News has learned.

7-Eleven Diet Coke FROST Cherry Slurpee

Diet Coke's first frozen offering in the brand’s 31-year history, FROST is a low-calorie frozen carbonated beverage with natural cherry flavor. Each 20-ounce serving has 30 calories and 12 grams of carbs.

The new Slurpee flavor has been available exclusively at 7-Eleven convenience stores nationwide since Feb. 26, and Coca-Cola planned to make it available to other retailers across the country at the end of May.

Dallas-based 7-Eleven and Atlanta-based Coca-Cola provided the following statement:

"Both The Coca-Cola Co. and 7-Eleven have an unwavering commitment to quality. After the recent launch of Diet Coke FROST Cherry Slurpee at 7-Eleven, a significant number of stores experienced dispensing quality issues involving the product freezing consistency. There are no health or safety issues with the product. In keeping with both companies' quality standards, 7-Eleven has decided to remove the product. Coca-Cola values its relationship with 7-Eleven and, as partners, will continue to bring innovative, refreshing beverages to the market."

The companies did not indicate whether a retooled version of Diet Coke FROST Cherry Slurpee would return to stores.
