Chester's Is Golden in Kenosha

Operator opens unit in Wisconsin travel center

KENOSHA, Wis. -- Chester's, the fried chicken program provider for convenience stores, gas stations and travel plazas, has announced its newest location, in Kenosha, Wis., near the Illinois border. The Kenosha Travel Center, located near I-94 at Exit 340, celebrated the unit's grand opening yesterday. This is its first Chester's for Kenosha Travel Center's parent company, Golden Oil Co.

The grand opening festivities included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a special appearance from Chester the Chicken, who was in the store all day to pose for pictures with customers [image-nocss] and employees.

Kenosha Travel Center's owner, Paul Bhardwaj, has an extensive foodservice background as a result of the various foodservice programs he has had in 17 other locations. "We are excited about bringing Chester's to Kenosha," he said. "Chester's great tasting fried chicken will be a great addition to our location, and we look forward to serving southeastern Wisconsin."

Kathryn Kudulis, brand manager for Chester's, said Golden Oil's experience in foodservice "will be an asset to the brand."

This Chester's location will be co-branded with Subway; the Chester's signature menu options include fried bone-in chicken, chicken tenders, potato wedges and biscuits. Kenosha Travel Center will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner; and will offer customers dine-in, carryout and catering options.

Birmingham, Ala.-based Chester's is a major provider of quick-serve restaurant (QSR) concepts with more than 1,500 Chester Fried licensed and Chester's franchised locations. Along with its food products, Chester's also offers flexible size and store layout options, training and support. The program uses only chicken that is specially marinated and double-breaded using a proprietary family recipe and offers bone-in, tenders and potato wedges as well as sandwiches, wraps, salads, breakfast and sides.
