OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. -- Even as Dunkin' Donuts executives rang the NASDAQ Stock Market opening bell in celebration of National Coffee Day on Sept. 29--as well as offer customers a free medium cup of its new Dark Roast Coffee (99 cents Sept. 30 through Oct. 5)--the convenience store industry readied its collective pot to put its rival to shame.

The promotion will also earn the customer a two-cents-per-gallon discount on their next fuel purchase, a penny per gallon for each item.
