GasAmerica Debuts New Miami Subs Grill

Retailer opens fast-casual restaurant with gasoline; offers c-store item delivery
GREENFIELD, Ind. -- The New Miami Subs Grill, a fast-casual restaurant concept, has opened its first franchise unit with regional gas station and convenience store chain GasAmerica. Also, customers can have c-store items delivered to their home or office along with their restaurant orders.

The 2,000-square-foot Miami Grill combined with a 4,000-sq.-ft. Convenience Mart Stop is located at one of the chain's Greenfield, Ind., locations. Headquartered in Greenfield, GasAmerica has 86 locations in Indiana and Ohio.

"The gas and convenience store sector is one of the fastest [image-nocss] growing segments of our franchise initiative," said Lawrence Austin, a principal of New Miami Subs Grill, who heads up the company's franchise development team. "We are delighted to have partnered with such an outstanding, well-known company like GasAmerica. They truly understand the value of customer service and a quality fast-casual restaurant concept in connection with its gas and convenience store offerings."

Austin said that they are currently discussing other GasAmerica locations and plan to roll out additional units in 2011.

"We've looked at a number of food concepts and found the New Miami Subs Grill concept the best restaurant chain for GasAmerica to partner with as it offers many options for our customers," said Stephanie White, CEO of GasAmerica. "We believe our Miami Grill will serve as a destination restaurant for a casual lunch or dinner. It also gives our customers an opportunity to grab one of the many Miami Subs offerings on the go while fueling their vehicles and, for the first time in North America, have their meals as well as all our convenience store items delivered to their home or office through the New Miami Subs National 'one-number, all-locations delivery system'."

"This is very forward thinking by GasAmerica, and we believe the delivery of convenience store items along with a lunch or dinner order is a first in the industry. What sets our system apart from a typical delivery system is utilizing a national one-number system with a domestic-based call center taking delivery orders so our in-store crew can be attentive to customers and without the distraction of answering a phone. Orders will be sent directly to the POS system and kitchen monitors," Austin said. "Customers calling for home or office delivery will speak to trained, courteous telephone order takers whose entire focus is to assist and satisfy that particular customer and all of their needs at that moment."

For this initial unit, White and Austin have chosen the name Miami Grill
"We didn't want potential patrons unfamiliar with the Miami Subs extensive menu to confuse us with a simple 'sub shop' as we will offer all of our great menu items from Miami Subs famous Philly Cheesesteaks and wings, to our pizza and gyros," said White. "When we choose our next location we will discuss the name with Miami Subs to determine if that philosophy works, or if we go with the New Miami Subs Grill."

Austin said that Miami Subs had new franchise units opening in New York and Florida in December 2010 in addition to the GasAmerica restaurant.

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Miami Subs currently has locations in Florida, the Carolinas, New York and Indiana.

Greenfield, Ind.-based GasAmerica is a fourth generation family-owned business originally established as the White Petroleum Co. in 1916.
