Gilligan's Dozen

Gilligan Oil signs deal for six new Dunkin' Donuts sites, for total of 12 by 2016
CINCINNATI -- Gilligan Oil Co. LLC, an existing franchisee, has signed a multi-unit store development agreement with Dunkin' Donuts for six new restaurants in Cincinnati. Currently, Gilligan Oil owns and operates three restaurants in the Cincinnati market. Three more are in development, and with this deal Gilligan Oil will have 12 locations open and operating by 2016.

"We are excited to expand Dunkin' Donuts' presence in Cincinnati and play an important role in the daily lives of people who live, work and visit here," said Pat Gilligan, president and CEO. "We have a strong [image-nocss] passion and loyalty for the brand and look forward to the opening of our additional restaurants in the years to come."

In addition to the development agreement mentioned above, Dunkin' Donuts is seeking new and existing franchisees to develop restaurants throughout Cincinnati and the surrounding areas of Dayton and Toledo. To help fuel growth in Ohio, it is offering special development incentives that include reduced royalty fees for three years and an extra $10,000 in local store marketing for stores that open on time.

To drive its expansion efforts, Dunkin' Donuts has aligned its strategy to support the growth opportunities and consumer needs of individual markets. As a result, the company continues to expand with single and multi-unit opportunities with no minimum unit requirements.

"Dunkin' Donuts is excited to welcome Pat and his team back to the Cincinnati market," said Grant Benson, CFE, vice president of franchising and market planning, Dunkin' Brands Inc. "We are still looking to expand our presence here and are looking for qualified franchisees with foodservice, operations and real estate experience to join our team in Ohio and encourage prospects to take advantage of our special incentives."

Dunkin' Donuts is a market leader in the regular/decaf coffee, iced coffee, hot flavored coffee, donut, bagel and muffin categories and the largest coffee and baked goods chain in the world. It has more than 9,700 restaurants in 31 countries worldwide. In 2010, Dunkin' Donuts' global system-wide sales were $6 billion. Based in Canton, Mass., Dunkin' Donuts is a subsidiary of Dunkin' Brands Inc.

Cincinnati-based Gilligan Oil operates 88 On the Run and Go Co convenience stores in Ohio and Kentucky.

Separately, the first Dunkin' Donuts in the Johnson City, Tenn., area opened earlier this week at a Shell station in North Johnson City, reported TriCities.com.
