Kwik Trip Recalls Egg-Salad Sandwiches

Products may include potentially harmful, undeclared ingredients

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The Kwik Trip convenience-store chain is recalling its Kitchen’s Cravings Premium Egg Salad Sandwiches on Oat Multigrain Bread after an employee found undeclared traces of imitation crab meat in the product, according to a notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The chain sold the 5.5-ounce individually wrapped sandwiches at its locations in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin with a sell-by date on or before March 29, 2018. Its universal product code (UPC) is 3977900079.

Consumers allergic to fish or shellfish may risk contracting a serious or life-threatening illness if they consume the sandwich; however, no allergic reactions have been reported and no other Kwik Trip products have been affected by this recall, the company said.

Kwik Trip is urging customers who purchased the sandwiches to discard them immediately or return them to their local store for a full refund. Kwik Trip did not respond to a CSP request for comment on the matter.

La Crosse, Wis.-based Kwik Trip Inc., with approximately 560 locations, ranked No. 15 in a year-end update of CSP’s2017 Top 202 list of the largest c-store chains in the United States.
