McLane Subsidiary Launches New Pizza Brand

Fly Guys conceived from 13,000 feet in the air

TEMPLE, Texas -- McLane Co. Inc. has introduced a new pizza brand at its National Trade Show in Orlando, Fla. Fly Guys Pizza is now part of the portfolio of Consumer Value Products (CVP), a McLane private-label subsidiary.

Fly Guys Pizza is made with premium toppings on a self-rising crust. Retailers can serve the pizza hot by the slice or as a whole, 12-inch baked pizza. The 12-inch pizzas can also be merchandised in the freezer section for consumers to bake at home. The pizza comes in pepperoni, five-meat and breakfast varieties.

The brand was a literal pie-in-the-sky idea. The lore behind the pizza is that Italian founders Luciano Rosso and Frederico Moretti shared an appreciation of both sky diving and pizza, and they vowed to start the company together while plummeting from 13,000 feet in the air.

McLane Kitchen and CVP supplies customers with Fly Guys-branded packaging, including pizza boxes, slice trays, pizza ovens, serving utensils and signage.

"We are thrilled to enter the most talked about category in convenience with Fly Guys Pizza program,” said Teresa Voelter, general manager for CVP. “With retail and foodservice options, our customers will be enthusiastic about the program and its benefits to help drive their sales."

CVP has more than 240 products across the foodservice, automotive, candy and snacks, general merchandise, grocery and health and beauty and wellness categories.

Temple, Texas-based McLane is one of the largest supply-chain-services leaders, providing grocery and foodservice supply-chain solutions for convenience stores, mass merchants, drugstores and chain restaurants throughout the United States. McLane, through McLane Grocery and McLane Foodservice, operates more than 80 distribution centers across the U.S. and one of the nation's largest private fleets.
