The Pantry Expanding Aunt M's Kitchen

"Home cooking" QSR concept coming to more Kangaroo Express locations

CARY, N.C. -- The Pantry Inc.'s Kangaroo Express said that it will expand its Aunt M's Kitchen offering to several Kangaroo Express locations throughout the Southeast. Aunt M's Kitchen is an exclusive quick-service restaurant (QSR) concept found only at Kangaroo Express stores.

Customers who visit Kangaroo Express stores with an Aunt M's Kitchen will find a taste of home-cooking with a variety of on-the-go, breakfast, lunch and dinner options, including seasoned fried chicken, fresh sandwiches and biscuits, hearty sides and warm desserts.

Two Kangaroo Express stores in the Charlotte, N.C., area will celebrate the opening of an Aunt M's Kitchen in the coming weeks. The Kangaroo Express located near Concord Mills Mall will celebrate an Aunt M's Kitchen opening on May 31. Another will celebrate an Aunt M's Kitchen opening on June 8.

"Aunt M's Kitchen offers a taste of home, with the high quality not typically expected at your neighborhood convenience store. We listened to our guests, and developed Aunt M's Kitchen to fit their needs," said Ross Adkison, division vice president of restaurant operations at The Pantry. "Quality home cooking is just another way Kangaroo Express provides a fast and friendly store for our on-the-go guests."

Aunt M's Kitchen incorporates state-of-the-art cooking equipment, the company said, and uses kiosks for easy ordering and quick service.

The expansion of Aunt M's Kitchen into Kangaroo Express stores is part of Kangaroo Express' mission to provide a variety of fresh food options for consumers. It is an example of the investments Kangaroo Express is making in its communities across the southeastern United States, including plans to open more quick-service restaurants in stores and remodel more than 70 stores, it said.

As of May 7, 2013, The Pantry--a leading independently operated convenience store chain in the southeastern United States--operated 1,567 convenience stores in 13 states under select banners, including its primary operating banner, Kangaroo Express. The Pantry is based in Cary, N.C.
