TULSA, Okla. -- QuikTrip Corp. is trying delivery on for size. The retailer is testing Uber Eats at four locations in Tulsa, where the 740-unit chain is based.
Customers can select from QT Kitchen’s made-to-order menu of pizza, sandwiches, flatbreads and more delivered through the Uber Eats platform, according to News on 6. Leveraging the ride-sharing company's fleet, Uber Eats allows users to place and track a delivery order through an app.
The convenience store is in the early days of the test and is focused on learning the business of third-party delivery, Mike Thornbrugh, QuikTrip’s manager of public and government affairs, told CSP Daily News.
With the competition of Amazon, meal kits and third-party delivery heating up convenience, several retailers have launched delivery services. In December, 7-Eleven Inc., Irving, Texas, rolled out on-demand ordering for delivery or in-store pickup at select Dallas stores with its proprietary 7-ElevenNow smartphone app.
Offering quick, frictionless options might be especially crucial for c-stores as they work to capture younger demographics. Nearly half of Gen Z consumers say they order food for delivery at least once a week, compared to 23% of consumers overall, according to Technomic’s 2017 Consumer Direct Study, powered by Ignite.
