QuikTrip Tests Sandwich Counters in 2 Markets

The subs are available in signature combinations or made to order

TULSA, Okla. -- QuikTrip’s newest addition to its QT Kitchens foodservice program is a made-to-order-sandwich counter. The convenience-store retailer is testing the offerings in its home market of Tusla, Okla., as well as Wichita, Kan.

Customers can customize their subs or choose from QT’s signature combinations, including The Big Italian, 3 Meat Stack and The Gardener. The retailer is looking to create a premium feel with Choice roast beef, Genoa salami and Black Forest ham. With sandwiches starting at $3.49, however, the c-store chain is also aiming for a competitive price point.

The counters are featured at all stores in both markets and have received positive reviews, according to the company.

“Our Tulsa and Wichita customers are loyal fans, and because of their trust in our company, they give our new products a fair shot,” said Adam Fidanza, corporate sales manager for QT. “We’ve received enthusiastic comments from the subs trials in these two markets, and we’re excited for this broader launch of fresh subs in Tulsa and Wichita.”

Sandwiches are a safe bet for QT, considering about 61% of consumers eat sandwiches about once a week, according to Technomic’s 2018 Sandwich Consumer Trend Report.  However, fast-casual sub chains such as Jersey Mikes, Manasquan, N.J., and Firehouse Subs, Jacksonville, Fla., create steep competition in the category.

QuikTrip Corp. operates 700 stores in 11 states. The c-store chain earned the No. 11 spot in CSP’s 2018 Top 202 ranking.
