Ricker’s Expanding In-Store Foodservice

Retailer's food-truck success triggers menu growth, hiring surge

ANDERSON, Ind. -- To staff its expanding foodservice offering, Ricker’s Convenience Stores will hire more than 200 employees for both part-time and full-time positions in 2016. The hiring surge will take place over the next six months at more than half of Ricker’s 56 locations.

After “substantial success” with the launch of its original ¡Ahh Burritos! food-truck business, Ricker’s began to further build its presence in the foodservice arena with its first in-store test in 2014. At that time, the menu primarily focused on the retailer’s brand of fast and fresh Mexican cuisine that included burritos, tacos, quesadillas and salads. As part of its growth strategy, Ricker’s is now expanding its food offering to include a variety of fresh, made-to-order breakfast, lunch and dinner options, including pizza, breadsticks, deli sandwiches, salads and more.

Most of the new hires will join the Ricker’s team as foodservice employees.

“As Ricker’s continues to expand and grow, we are excited to be able to create jobs and employ enthusiastic and dependable people that share our core values,” said the company’s president and CEO, Quinn Ricker. “We are also excited to be making such strides in our own brand of foodservice.”

Ricker’s, which already employs more than 800 Hoosiers, offers its employee perks that include industry-leading competitive salaries and benefits. Last summer, Ricker’s increased its wages for all entry-level positions to $9 an hour, $1.75 above state minimum wage, while employees working the third shift saw an increase to $10 per hour. After one-year of employment, Ricker’s employee’s pay automatically increases another $1 per hour.

Jay and Nancy Ricker founded Ricker’s in 1979. Based in Anderson, Ind., it includes more than 56 convenience stores known for their “RickerPop” fountain drinks.
