Rutter’s to Host Wine and Food Pairings

Events underscore chain's move into alcohol sales

YORK, Pa. -- Rutter's will hold several wine and food pairings at its convenience stores this summer to help introduce consumers to the recent addition of wine and beer at its c-stores.

For years, strict state alcohol retailing laws prevented c-stores in Pennsylvania from selling cold beer and wine. That changed in May 2016, when Gov. Tom Wolf "freed the six-pack" by signing a bill that opened the door to cold-beer sales in c-stores. Rutter’s currently has 20 stores selling beer, and 18 of those locations also sell wine.

The first wine and food paring event will be from noon to 2 p.m. at a Rutter's in its hometown of York, Pa. This is the first in a series of events that will occur over the summer in Rutter’s beer and wine stores.

Each event will feature a variety wines to be sampled by customers. For the upcoming events, Rutter’s has partnered with E. & J. Gallo Winery. Rutter’s will also work with other local wineries for future events.

For the first five events, Rutter’s and Gallo will be offering a select variety of wines, including Apothic Red, Apothic Rose, Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio, Liberty Creek Chardonnay and Barefoot wines. In addition, Rutter’s will also be offering food and candy pairings for each wine, including shrimp, ribs, seafood, chicken, cheese, chocolate-chip muffins, strawberry cheesecake, Kit Kats and Starbursts. Below is the list of upcoming events:

  • April 28, from noon to 2 p.m. at 910 South Richland Ave., York
  • May 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. at 201 Cool Springs Road, Wrightsville
  • May 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. at 100 Grand St., Hamburg
  • May 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at 1520 Pennsylvania Ave., York
  • May 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at 160 North Hills Road, York

“We are so excited to be offering food and wine pairings at several of our store locations. This is a great way to also tie in our key vendors and get our customers involved and trying out delicious wine and food offerings,” said Robert Perkins, vice president of marketing for Rutter's.

With roots dating back to 1747, York, Pa.-based Rutter’s, formerly Rutter's Farm Stores, is an industry leader in foodservice, innovative technology and customer service.
