Thorntons Opening First Chicago-Area Kitchen

Series of stores intended to become food and beverage destination

ALGONQUIN, Ill. --Thorntons Inc. will open the kitchen at a convenience store in Algonquin, Ill., on March 4. This foodservice-focused Thorntons features a grab-and-go kitchen and beverages.

This convenience store is the first of its kind to open in a series of c-stores in the Chicago area that will be focused on making Thorntons a food and beverage destination.

Customers can get hot breakfast, lunch and snack items that are prepared fresh on site every day, in addition to a variety of traditional roller grill items. For breakfast, customers can pick up hot sandwiches such as a sausage egg and cheese biscuit, a ham egg and cheese croissant or a bacon egg and cheese burrito, among other choices.

The store serves breakfast until 10:30 a.m. each day.

Lunch options include pepperoni pizza, cheeseburger, buffalo ranch chicken burrito, crispy chicken tenders and golden tater bites.

Between meals, customers can get fresh snacks like soft pretzels and cheesy bread sticks. The new hot food selections are in addition to fresh fruit, gourmet deli sandwiches, yogurt parfaits and a variety of salads and wraps.

This Thorntons location includes a full bakery case and an ice cream bar. Thorntons receives daily deliveries of fresh items including donuts, pastries, cookies and more. The ice cream bar offers vanilla soft serve and a variety of toppings including Butterfinger crumbles, M&M’s and Oreos.

During the first 10 days after opening, Thorntons will be sampling fresh, hot food items from the kitchen.

Based in Louisville, Ky., Thorntons currently operates 184 convenience stores that provide food, beverages and fuel in six states: Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and Florida.
