Wawa Store Turns 35

Anniversary includes free coffee, renewal of vows

PENNSVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- Wawa Inc. announced Wednesday a milestone in their company's history: the 35th anniversary of their store located on Carroll Avenue in Pennsville Township, N.J.

To mark this special anniversary and celebrate Wawa's continued investment in the community, Wawa will renew its vows to the community through a wedding-inspired, in-store celebration beginning at 8:30 a.m. today, Dec. 17, according to a report on NJ.com.

During the celebration, Wawa will toast the community, recognizing customers and associates for their loyalty and business throughout [image-nocss] the years by offering free coffee all day. Wawa will also honor longtime customers and associates during the event.

Wawa will recognize its long-standing commitment to Check Out Hunger and the area food banks through a check presentation celebrating the total amount of money raised through the recently concluded New Jersey Wawa in-store Check Out Hunger campaign, results of $55,700.

A representative from the Community Food Bank of Southern New Jersey will be on hand to accept the check on behalf of Check Out Hunger statewide.

The moment Wawa customers step into the store today, they will notice a barrage of wedding-themed decorations, including a gigantic coffee-cup cake constructed entirely out of Wawa coffee cups, with a figurine of Wawa's Mascot, Wally Goose, dressed in a tuxedo on the top of the cake.

The cake will be circled by Wawa's Values, meant to reflect Wawa's renewed vows to the community, according to the report.

Customers and associates will be handed red foam hearts and will be serenaded by special guests Wally and the Honkers, Wawa's all-kazoo band featuring Wawa's mascot, Wally Goose, dressed in a tuxedo and top hat, with his kazoo-playing entourage.

"We are thrilled to recommit ourselves to the communities we serve and feel these Wawaversaries are a great way to say thank you to our customers and associates, and let them know we are more committed than ever to our long-standing community partnerships," said Howard Stoeckel, Wawa's president and CEO. "This year, the Wawaversaries will also celebrate the positive impact of Wawa's in-store fundraising efforts and acknowledge the important support that Wawa's associates and customers have always offered to local and corporatewide community organizations."

Privately held Wawa Inc., based in Wawa, Pa., has more than 570 c-stores throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia.
