C-Store Distributor Acquires Related Company

Forrest City Grocery will add 50 jobs with purchase of Galler Wholesale
FORREST CITY, Ark. -- A grocery wholesaler is adding 50 jobs to its operation in Forrest City, Ark., according to a report by the Associated Press. Forrest City Grocery Co. supplies smaller retailers and has acquired Galler Wholesale of Memphis, Tenn., a company that has a similar list of customers.

Forrest City Grocery co-owner David Cohn says the acquisition will push the company's sales over $50 million a year and will add 150 stores to its service area. The company services convenience stores, mom-and-pop grocers and tobacco stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, [image-nocss] Missouri and Tennessee.

With the new territory, Forrest City Grocery will serve more than 2,000 stores, it said.

Cohn added that the company will need about 50 more workers to keep up with the added demand. He said other changes are in the works that could result in more positions being added.

Currently, the company has about 375 employees. Separately, Cohn and his brother Allen Cohn own Tobacco Superstores, which has more than 700 workers; they plan to expand and employ more than 800 people.
