Convenience Distribution Association Names New Chair

First woman to hold position has nearly 30 years of industry experience

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Susie Douglas Munson, COO of Douglas Cos., Conway, Ark., will be the Convenience Distribution Association's (CDA) new chair for 2017, the first woman to hold the position in the association’s history, CDA announced.

Munson, who received her green jacket symbolizing the position of CDA chair during the Convenience Distribution Business Exchange (CDBX) opening session Sept. 13 in Scottsdale, Ariz., follows in the footsteps of her father, the late Bob W. Douglas, who led the association, then known as the American Wholesale Marketers Association, in 2001.

“For many years, Susie has volunteered her time, talents and energy to CDA committees and initiatives,” said 2016 chair Chad Owen, vice president of business affairs for Chambers & Owen, Janesville, Wis. “I have no doubt that as chair, Susie will not only support, but strengthen the many valuable services provided by CDA to our membership.”

Munson will succeed Owen, taking over as chair in January.

“Susie Munson is a special individual, an extremely smart and capable industry executive who brings a rare combination of practical knowledge and forward-thinking vision,” CDA president and CEO Kimberly Bolin said. “Under her leadership, CDA will continue on its path of advancement and success.”

Douglas Cos. is a regional supplier servicing a six-state area of Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.

Munson has worked in the convenience-store industry for more than 26 years. She has served as past president of the Arkansas Wholesale Marketer’s Association; she was a member of the WAM Advisory Board and has been a member of the CDA board of directors for more than seven years, serving as chairman of the government affairs committee before joining the executive committee.

In other CDA news, the Reston, VA.-based group inducted Dick Dunham, vice president of operations for Stephenson Wholesale Co., Durant, Okla., into the CDA Hall of Fame on Sept. 13 at the CDBX event.

The CDA Hall of Fame Award recognizes industry executives for outstanding and longstanding contributions to the convenience-store distribution industry and their commitment and service to the association.

“Dick participates in everything that CDA offers—the CDBX, annual convention, Day on the Hill and Industry Affairs committee meetings at vendor locations,” said Sherwin Herring, CEO of Southco Distributing Co., Goldsboro, N.C., who succeeded him as AWMA chair. “You name it, whether it is at the state, regional or national level, Dick is there working and participating.”
