Fas Mart Sends Wipes to Afghanistan

Soldier's comment leads to donation; retailer also selling Support Our Troops ribbons

RICHMOND, Va. -- As of Jan. 25, 2013, Fas Mart/Shore Stop convenience store locations have sold a total of 60,336 Royal Wipes moist towelettes to be donated to the military, the retailer said on Facebook.

Bill Reilly, senior vice president of marketing for Fas Mart/Shore Stop, told CSP Daily News, "We want to keep a longstanding history of supporting our men and woman in uniform. This year the organization decided to show support when one of soldiers came into his local Fas mart and said to the sales associate, 'You don't know what I would have given for package of these wipes while in Afghanistan. There was days that it was my bath!' The sales associate shared this comment on our intranet where they can post any and all comments to the management team at the home office."

He said, "We just loved the idea and made it happen."

The retailer is also helping the military in other ways. "Support Our Troops $1 ribbons are taking off! In two weeks we have raised over $40,000 for our troops and their families with your support!", the company said on Twitter.

"We will continue to find ways to Support our Troops while also focusing on our corporate charities by finding charities that can improve the life of a child," Reilly said.

Support U.S. Armed Forces is a nonprofit charitable organization with the mission to support the troops by providing morale, welfare and encouragement to our men and women in uniform.

Richmond, Va.-based GPM Investments LLC operates 213 Fas Mart and Shore Stop c-stores and supplies more than 115 independent dealers in Virginia, Maryland, Rhode Island, Delaware, Connecticut, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Tennessee.
