WASHINGTON -- The first TargetExpress in the Washington, D.C., region opens this week in College Park, Md., with a pared-down assortment of the mass merchandiser’s usual offerings, located beneath University of Maryland student housing.
The Washington Business Journal offers a sneak peek (embedded below) of the new store, which stocks grocery, snack, health and beauty items and housewares, along with school supplies and University of Maryland gear.
At 15,000-square-feet, it is smaller than an average TargetExpress format (20,000 square feet) and only 15% of the size of a regular Target.
It also has a full-service pharmacy that will offer flu shots and accepts the insurance offered to faculty and staff, said the report.
Target said it will continue to test TargetExpress stores to learn more about operating small-format locations and further enhance and customize the guest experience.
The Minneapolis-based company currently operates one TargetExpress, which opened in Minneapolis in July 2014 (click here to view a CSP Daily News slideshow featuring the store). It has announced openings in San Francisco, San Diego and St. Paul, Minn., and it plans two for the greater Washington, D.C., area and one in Chicago.
