EARTH CITY, Mo. -- Save-A-Lot, Supervalu Inc.'s hard-discount, limited-assortment grocery banner, has opened 14 new stores across nine states since the beginning of 2015.
The banner's newest stores focus on fresh, with a "commitment to bring fresh produce, dairy and meats" to their communities, Mike Stout, director of license business development, told CSP Daily News.
The new stores are a combination of corporate-owned and licensed locations.
They are located in:
- Memphis, Tenn. (opened February 26).
- Eastlake, Ohio (February 26).
- Tamarac, Fla. (February 26).
- Rome, N.Y, (February 26).
- Norfolk, Va. (February 26).
- Rockford, Ill. (February 26).
- Kewanee, Ill. (February 25).
- Columbia, S.C. (February 19).
- Cambridge, Md. (February 12).
- Appalachia, Va. (February 11).
- Newburgh, N.Y. (January 29).
- Akron, Ohio (January 29).
- Lancaster, Ohio (January 28).
- Indianapolis (January 8).
The stores, which average 15,000 square feet and allow for a quick and easy shopping experience, offer a reduced SKU assortment--approximately 2,500 items--the cover more than 90% of everyday shopper needs.
Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Supervalu is one of the largest grocery wholesalers and retailers in the United States with annual sales of approximately $17 billion. It has a network of 3,360 stores composed of more than 1,800 primary stores serviced by the company’s food distribution business; more than 1,300 Save-A-Lot stores, of which more than 900 are operated by licensee owners; and nearly 200 traditional retail grocery stores.
