Smucker Supply Chain, Operations Exec Retiring

Day, Ferguson together to succeed Armstrong in September

ORRVILLE, Ohio -- The J.M. Smucker Co. has announced that Dennis J. Armstrong, senior vice president of supply chain logistics and operations support, will retire Sept. 30, following 37 years with the company.

Armstrong has served in several leadership roles, including logistics, operations and purchasing, during his career with the company.

“During his 37 years of dedicated service to the company, Denny’s deep supply chain knowledge, operational expertise and strong leadership have greatly benefitted Smucker,” said Richard Smucker, CEO. “We appreciate all of Denny’s contributions, which were integral to the company’s growth and success.”

The company also announced the following appointments to replace Armstrong, effective May 1:

  • James (Randy) Day will assume the role of senior vice president of operations. Day is currently vice president of coffee operations. He has been with the company for 27 years.
  • Robert D. Ferguson will assume the role of senior vice president of supply chain. Ferguson is vice president of integrated business and program management and has been with the company since the 2015 acquisition of Big Heart Pet Brands, where he held leadership roles for seven years with Big Heart and Del Monte Foods Inc.

Day and Ferguson will report to Mark Smucker as members of his executive leadership team, effective May 1 when Smucker assumes the role of president and CEO.

“We have an experienced leadership team, tremendous talent throughout our organization and the right purpose, vision, strategy and brands to continue to grow the company,” said Mark Smucker, who is currently president of consumer and natural foods. “Randy and Rob’s operational and supply chain expertise have been and will continue to be an asset to our company.”
