C.N. Brown Raises $127,000 for MDA

Retailer hosts 21st Annual Miracle Ball, shamrocks campaign

SOUTH PARIS, Maine -- On March 10, C.N. Brown, which operates the Big Apple Food Stores, hosted the 21st Annual Miracle Ball on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The Ball was held at the Marriott Sable Oaks and was "a night filled with gracious giving, emotional speeches and continued support to make a difference in the lives of the families we serve in Maine," the company said.

The Miracle Ball raised more than $38,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Guests bid on silent auction items that were donated by multiple business throughout New England.

The president of C.N. Brown, Jinger Duryea, motivated all in attendance to sponsor the ongoing research conducted nationally to find a cure for the 43 neuromuscular diseases. Money raised by the event helps to provide services such as clinics at the Maine Medical Center in Portland and the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Summer Camp at Pine Tree, assistance with equipment including the repair of wheelchairs and leg braces, support groups and worldwide research.

MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services and far-reaching professional and public health education. The association's programs are funded almost entirely by individual, private contributions.

Also, the convenience retailer's Shamrocks Against Muscular Dystrophy campaign held from February 13 to March 17 raised $89,000, the company said.

Since 1948, C. N. Brown has remained family owned and operated. Beginning as a lumber company, it has since grown into one that owns and operates all Big Apple Food Stores and Red Shield Heating Oil locations throughout New England. The people of South Paris, Maine-based C.N. Brown play an important role in the communities they serve and continues to be the top sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Maine.
