Gilbarco Veeder-Root's Habit of Helping

Kicks off annual Habitat for Humanity building project

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- For the sixth consecutive year, Gilbarco Veeder-Root has partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro to build a new home for a local family in need. The kickoff of the building project on Sept. 18 brought associates from Gilbarco Veeder-Root, Habitat for Humanity, United Guaranty and the family together for an emotional ceremony, including the raising of the first wall.

Gilbarco Veeder-Root has teamed up with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro to give back to the community it has been a part of since 1965. The goal of the project is to build a two-story home for a local family and their six children, ranging in age from six to 16. United Guaranty will also participate in the project with Gilbarco Veeder-Root.

"Building a home brings extraordinary value to the family. At the end of the day you are building a home so a family can build a future, and we are always excited to see a company like Gilbarco support that goal," said Jim Dagenhart, chief financial officer of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro.

Gilbarco Veeder-Root is a major employer in the area, and their team has been increasing community involvement each year. This year marks their largest associate involvement, with over one hundred employees volunteering to contribute.

"We are thrilled to be working with Habitat for Humanity again. Gilbarco Veeder-Root has deep roots in the Greensboro community, and we are proud to be able to give back. It's humbling to see our associates giving their time to help out a local family," said Mike Schulte, president of Gilbarco North America, Greensboro, N.C.

Habitat Greensboro was formed in 1987 by four Christians in response to their Habitat experience in Peru; 25 years later, Habitat Greensboro has expanded to almost 5,000 volunteers and 30 staff who build, renovate and provide critical repairs to 30 to 35 homes each year.
