Glitch Grounds GetGo Gas

Sales disrupted for short time by automated payment system snafu
PITTSBURGH -- Service at 153 GetGo gas stations in four states was disrupted for a brief period last Friday night because of problems in the automated payment system, according to a report by The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Customers were unable to make credit card payments at the pump from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Dan Donovan, a spokesperson for Giant Eagle Inc. supermarkets, which owns and operates the fuel stations, told the newspaper. Attendants were able to take manual payments, the report added.

We had a very brief, approximately 30-minute pricing [image-nocss] system malfunction at our GetGo fuel pumps.... It did affect all GetGo locations system-wide," Donovan told CSP Daily News.

He added, "Our store-level team members worked diligently to correct payment issues with customers on site. They processed payments manually, provided refunds when necessary and offered free coffee as a means of thanking customers for their patience. The technical issue was quickly resolved, and we were again fully operational shortly after 7:00."

Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle has 159 corporate and 61 independently owned and operated supermarkets in addition to 153 fuel and convenience stores throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, north central West Virginia and Maryland. The company offers the Fuelperks rewards program that discounts a dime per gallon off the price of gasoline at GetGo dispensers for every $50 that a customer spends at a Giant Eagle supermarket. Ih also recently launched foodperks!, a new loyalty program that enables customers to earn discounts on regular supermarket purchases for pumping gasoline at the retailer's GetGo fuel stations. The program is initially being launched in the Columbus, Ohio, market.
