PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- Irving Oil brought its biggest U.S. fundraiser back to New Hampshire on June 5 in honor of some very special athletes, reported Seacoastonline. Law enforcement officers designated June 5 as their annual "To Serve & Protect Day." As part of the day's activities, enforcement officers worked alongside Irving employees and Special Olympics athletes and coaches to pump gasoline, wash windows and greet customers. The company held the event at 42 Irving gas stations in New Hampshire.

"The loyal support of Irving Oil to Special Olympics over the last decade [image-nocss] has made an important contribution to the continued success and growth of Special Olympics," said Mary Conroy, president of Special Olympics New Hampshire.

Irving spokesperson Liza Dube said nearly 100 new Irving stations are participating throughout New England this year. "Fueling Dreams is great fun for everyone at Irving. We love working with Special Olympic," she told the media outlet.

All funds raised by volunteers at participating Irving and Circle K locations Saturday, June 5, will be donated to Special Olympics. Special icons could be purchased through June 6 for $1 with proceeds going directly to Special Olympics New Hampshire. Irving Oil will also make a direct donation. Through Saturday, Twitter users could tweet #fuelingdreamsNH. Each original tweet raised $1 for Special Olympics of NH.

Irving's Fueling Dreams fundraiser began in 1999 in New Hampshire to benefit the Law Enforcement Torch Run, the largest fundraiser worldwide for the Special Olympics. The event has grown across all six New England states and raised more than $2 million.

Meanwhile, in Canada, Football Canada and the Canadian National Women's Tackle Team welcomed Irving Oil as their major corporate sponsor in the team's quest for gold at the 2010 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Women's World Championship in Stockholm, Sweden, on June 27-July 3.

Of the 45 players selected to play for Canada, 14 members are from Saint John, with five players and one assistant coach who are employees of Irving Oil. Irving Oil has a long tradition of supporting amateur sport throughout Atlantic Canada.

During the team's 10 day stay in Stockholm, they will take on teams from the United States, Sweden, Austria, Germany, and Finland.

"We are particularly proud of the athletes among usour six employees who will be participating, Ashlee Clements, Lisa Rogers, Trina Graves, Lisa Harlow, Jacqueline Brewer and assistant coach, Jim Mather. We all look forward to meeting the team when they arrive for the final training camp in Saint John in June, and will be cheering them on during the championship," said Carolyn Van der Veen of Irving Oil.

"I'm extremely proud that my company has chosen to support our team. I see it as a reflection of Irving Oil's long-standing commitment to the community and its employees," said Lisa Rogers. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Not only do I have the opportunity to represent my country at the National level for a sport I've become truly passionate about, but I'm also making history for women in sport."Irving Oil is a regional refining and marketing company serving customers in New England (from Portsmouth, N.H.) and Eastern Canada (from Saint John, N.B.) with a range of finished energy products, including gasoline and complementary products and services.
