Jay & Nancy Ricker Honored by Salvation Army of Indiana

Accept Corporate Sponsor of the Year award

INDIANAPOLIS -- Jay and Nancy Ricker accepted the Corporate Sponsor of the Year award for 2010 from the Salvation Army of Indiana ant the organization's second annual Victory Dinner was designed to give The Salvation Army Indiana Division an opportunity to thank its "Army of Champions" who make it possible for it to feed the hungry, shelter those who are vulnerable and give hope to thousands of families each year in the Indianapolis community.

One of the many award recipients of the night that made 2010 victories possible was corporate partner Ricker Oil Co. Inc.

"[image-nocss] Aside from being a wonderful corporate partner by helping to raise thousands of dollars through counter kettles in Ricker's convenience stores, Jay Ricker and his employees decided to go one step further and help serve dinner to the residents living in our Women & Children's Shelter.," the organization said.

"They also paid us a visit the week before Christmas dressed as Santa and one of his elves with a sleigh full of gifts--individually purchased and wrapped for each of the children in the shelter. In addition to volunteering, Jay has made numerous trips to the shelter to drop off food donations to our kitchen. Jay and his wife Nancy are a couple to be commended for their example, and we hope other corporate partners will follow in their ways," it added.

Because of the support of volunteers and donors in 2010, the Salvation Army made it possible for: More than 1,400 to participate in Army Substance Abuse Programs. More than 79,000 safe nights were provided through its shelter and lodging programs. 202,543 meals were served at its various locations around the city. More than 4,100 children received coats through the Coats for Kids program. More than 800 families benefited from its Angel Tree and Toy Shop programs. More than 10,000 toys were collected for Toy Shop. More than 800 volunteers assisted with Salvation Army programs. 663 children attended Salvation Army summer camps. Christmas 2010 also marked the highest grossing Tree of Lights season ever--raising nearly $3.1 million.

The Salvation Army Indiana Division is headquartered in Indianapolis. The division, one of 10 Salvation Army divisions comprising 11 Midwestern U.S. states, is responsible for providing worship opportunities, community-based programs and social services initiatives in the most of Indiana's 92 counties.

Jay Ricker is chairman of Ricker Oil. Founded in 1979, it is a family-owned company based in Anderson, Ind. It owns and operates 48 convenience stores in Indiana, as well as a petroleum dealership and other enterprises.
