Life in the Quick Lane

Quick Chek testing self-checkout lanes with note, coin capabilities
WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. -- Quick Chek, a chain of 120 fresh-food convenience store locations throughout New Jersey and southern New York, has installed and is testing self-checkout lanes equipped with note and coin recycling capabilities at its Phillipsburg, N.J., store, which the retailer says is a first for the c-store industry.

Partnering with NCR Corp., a global technology leader in self-checkouts and other self-service solutions, point-of-sale (POS) software and hardware and automated teller machines, the company's Quick Chek Fast Lanes, which began operating in the [image-nocss] store August 26, are designed to enhance Quick Chek's customer service abilities by offering customers a second purchasing option and opportunity to speed up their checkout process during peak store periods.

"Along with being held in high regard for our wide array of fresh food products and famed fresh coffee program, Quick Chek customers also know us for the high level of personalized service we offer," said Quick Chek vice president of technology Maria Fidelibus. "Our new Quick Chek Fast Lane pilot program is intended as an extension of that solid customer service offering and we are thrilled to partner with NCR in this industry-pioneering initiative."

In other company news, Quick Chek's Lake Hopatcong, N.J., store located celebrated its 25th anniversary earlier this month.

Opening its doors for business in 1984, the Lake Hopatcong Quick Chek, managed by Store Leader Paula Miller since September 2007, employs a staff of 13 local team members. It is the 56th location the company opened since its inception in 1967.
