Marathon Continues to Expand Drop Tank Rollout

Full deployment of loyalty program to be completed by end of year

FINDLAY, Ohio -- More than 1,000 Marathon-branded gas stations are now certified to accept Drop Tank’s fuel discount products, which instantly drop the price of gasoline at the pump.

The retailer began the installation in January 2015 and continues across the company’s retail network throughout this year.

Last year, nearly 80% of Marathon Petroleum Corp. (MPC) independent jobbers and dealers enrolled in the program, which uses technology developed by Drop Tank.

“This is an important milestone in our partnership with Marathon Petroleum,” said David VanWiggeren, CEO of Drop Tank. “With more than 1,000 Marathon-brand sites now certified and able to accept fuel discounts, MPC is quickly becoming a redemption network of choice for fuel discounts. Their market presence and retail footprint give consumers convenient locations in 18 states to redeem Drop Tank’s cards and codes.”

Drop Tank’s proprietary technology makes fuel discounts available for promotions, incentives and reward programs in the form of plastic cards or digital codes. Cards can be co-branded, allowing custom designs for specific promotions. Codes can be delivered to consumers electronically. Both options can be used directly at the pump for instant gas savings.

Cards and codes are available in a variety of cents-off-per-gallon denominations, either for a single-use (up to 20 gallons) or for multi-use (up to 100 gallons).

Burr Ridge, Ill.-based Drop Tank is a fuel discount company focused on cents-off-per-gallon products and services. Drop Tank partners with recognizable fuel and convenience-store brands, such as Marathon, to create convenient redemption networks for consumers. Drop Tank’s products can be used as promotional items, employee incentives or loyalty program rewards.

Findlay, Ohio-based MPC is the nation's fourth-largest refiner. Approximately 5,460 independently owned gas stations across 19 states sell the Marathon-brand. In addition, Speedway LLC, an MPC subsidiary, owns and operates the nation's second-largest convenience-store chain, with approximately 2,750 convenience stores in 22 states.
