CSP editors honored for excellence; special issue wins seventh national award
OAK BROOK, Ill. -- Two veteran CSP editors have been honored for their reporting and storytelling, while a special issue of CSP magazine has continued its winning streak.

At the ASBPE Midwest-South Awards Banquet in Chicago, Angel Abcede, senior editor and content development coordinator for CSP, took home a gold award for his December 2009 profile of RaceTrac's Carl Bolch Jr. (click here).

The story, an extensive profile of CSP's 2009 Retail Leader [image-nocss] of the Year, continues CSP's award-winning profiles of executives. CSP has been recognized by ASBPE for profiles of previous Retail Leaders of the Year, including former 7-Eleven CEO Jim Keyes, former Wawa president Dick Wood, and the Sheetz family.

Abcede has been honored by ASBPE in the past for his in-depth news coverage, including CSP's February 2008 cover story that predicted gasoline would rise to $4 per gallon (click here).

Samantha Oller, senior editor and special projects coordinator, also took home a gold award. Oller's August 2009 story on energy-efficient appliances was honored in the category of How-To Article. The piece gave retailers a step-by-step guide to reducing energy costs associated with major appliances, including clip-and-save sidebars (click here).

Oller previously has been recognized for her Competitive Watch series, which offers convenience retailers best practices from operators such as Starbucks, Panera Bread and Trader Joe's. She also won an ASBPE award for her July 2008 profile of Murphy Oil (click here).

"What makes these awards so rewarding is they recognize different styles of reporting that distinguishes CSP from the rest of the fieldfrom explanatory journalism to in-depth analysis to people profiles. Our readers are demanding and it remains our goal to deliver them the best possible magazine each and every month," said Mitch Morrison, CSP vice president and group editor.

For the seventh year in a row, CSP's Category Management Handbook was honored with a national award for Graphics Excellence in the category of Information Graphics. This special issue, which CSP introduced in 2003, has won a national award every year since its inception. It offers retailers thousands of data points in six categories and dozens of subcategories to assist them in their category management.

The award-winning 2009 edition of the magazine was designed by Aurora, Ill.-based Keystroke Graphics, which has worked on the special issue for its entire run (click here).
