Sunoco Supports Red Cross With 'Fuel-Up' Partnership

Providing 130,000 gallons of gas to Red Cross vehicles
PHILADELPHIA -- Sunoco Inc. will extend its Fuel-Up Partnership with the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania (SEPA) Chapter to the Pennsylvania/New Jersey Blood Region, providing up to 130,000 gallons of gasoline and 12,000 gallons of diesel fuel to 77 blood region vehicles over the next year.

Since the inception of the Fuel-Up Partnership in 2006, Sunoco has donated 32,751 gallons of gasoline to fuel the SEPA Chapter's 44 disaster relief vehicles, helping the chapter respond to more than 750 disasters spread over all five counties in just the last year. Sunoco [image-nocss] will now extend this partnership to the 77 vehicles of the Penn-Jersey Blood Services Region. More than 100,000 pints of blood were collected last year by 876 trained Red Cross SEPA Chapter blood volunteers who donated 74,418 hours of their time to help save a life.

"This is a generous gift that will keep on giving. With the Penn-Jersey Blood Services Region collecting more blood each year, and ever-fluctuating fuel prices, Sunoco is taking corporate philanthropy and social responsibility to the next level. Our fleet is our lifeline. By helping Red Cross deliver critical disaster relief, health and safety and blood services, Sunoco shows what a good corporate citizen it is," said Tom Foley, CEO of the Red Cross SEPA Chapter.

"There is no organization more trusted or more committed than the American Red Cross," said Bob Owens, Sunoco senior vice president of marketing and Red Cross SEPA Chapter board member since 2007. "From collecting blood and responding to disasters to empowering our youth, the Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania is always there, building a better future for our community. Sunoco is proud to be part of that heroic effort."

A longtime friend of the Red Cross, Sunoco has been a corporate partner of the Red Cross for more than 40 years. Sunoco has contributed to youth programming, community events and local and national disaster relief, resulting in more than $3.3 million in support.

For the second year in a row, Sunoco will sponsor the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500, to be held July 31 Aug. 2, 2009, at Pocono Raceway. Sunoco is once again lending marketing and promotional support with signage at 1,826 retail locations in the Mid-Atlantic region. Sunoco has also highlighted the event on their website and provided a link to the Pocono Raceway ticket sales site in order to encourage fans to use the promo code and help raise money for the Red Cross.

A new addition to the 2009 program includes a relationship with Roush Fenway Racing and NASCAR Sprint Cup Driver Greg Biffle for the "Sunoco Red Cross Ultimate Fan Experience," a sweepstakes incentive encouraging race fans to support local disaster relief. The Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 benefits Red Cross House for families of disaster and Red Cross Chapters in the tri-county area.

Sunoco, headquartered in Philadelphia, is a leading manufacturer and marketer of petroleum and petrochemical products. With 825,000 barrels per day of refining capacity, approximately 4,700 retail sites selling gasoline and convenience items, approximately 6,000 miles of crude oil and refined product owned and operated pipelines and 43 product terminals, Sunoco is one of the largest independent refiner-marketers in the United States.
