TA Hosts Driver Celebration at Carl's Corner Petro

Separately, donation helps St. Christopher Truckers Development & Relief Fund

WESTLAKE, Ohio -- TravelCenters of America LLC, owner of Petro Stopping Centers, has announced a driver celebration event at its Petro full-service travel center at Exit 374 off I-35 at 101 Cornelius Road North, Carl's Corner, Texas. The festivities are taking place July 19 and 20, and feature a variety of activities for professional drivers and motorists to attend.

The event features a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Carl Cornelius, mayor of Carl's Corner. Additionally, a number of Carl's Corner City Council members will be in attendance to recognize Petro's opening [image-nocss] in this historic location.

Highlights of the celebration include a WBAP Midnight Trucking Radio live broadcast with radio personality Eric Harley: night of July 18/morning of July 19; ribbon cutting by Cornelius: July 19; Texas music recording artist Teri Hart, July 19 and 20; and random prize drawings and driver appreciation specials throughout both days.

The Petro at Carl's Corner was previously known as "Willie's Place," and maintains the previous establishment's uniqueness and charm, the company said. It opened for business in late April, and is holding this event to celebrate the drivers that have made it a success.

In other company news, TA recently presented a $30,000 check to The St. Christopher Truckers Development & Relief Fund (SCF). TA, a BP branded marketer, nominated SCF as part of its participation in the BP Fueling Communities grant program. Fueling Communities provides grants to local organizations that are nominated by BP's Branded Marketers to support the communities in which they do business.

"We're very grateful to BP for creating the Fueling Communities program, as it gave us yet another opportunity to play a part in funding programs that help the truck driver community," said Thomas O'Brien, president and CEO of TA. "We know this money will be put to good use to help truck drivers who suffer from financial hardship due to medical problems."

In 2010, SCF was presented with more than $200,000 as a result of TA's 2010 employee and customer fundraising drive. SCF provides financial support to professional drivers to put toward prescription medications, living expenses, and medical procedures. In addition, SCF provides assistance to drivers in lowering medical bill payments.

"We are thrilled to accept this donation from the BP Fueling Communities program and appreciate very much the nomination by TA," said Dr. Donna Kennedy, managing director of SCF. "Our relationship with TA and Petro has enabled us to assist more than 350 drivers since April of this year. This check will allow us to help even more going forward."

The BP Fueling Communities program provides grants to local organizations that are nominated by BP's branded marketers to support the communities in which they do business.
