TETCO’s Christmas Gift

Convenience-store chain donates $50,000 to Returning Heroes Home

SAN ANTONIO -- TETCO Convenience Stores and its ownership donated $50,000 to Returning Heroes Home, a nonprofit organization seeking funding to complete a $3.4-million, 6-acre recreational and therapeutic park to serve wounded warriors and their families.

TETCO and the Turner family presented the check to Returning Heroes Home during the company's Christmas party Dec. 16.

"Returning Heroes Home is especially grateful to TETCO and the Turner family for their unwavering support of our mission," said Steve Huffman, president of Returning Heroes Home. "Their financial support has helped us make a tremendous, positive impact in the lives of thousands of wounded warriors and their families. Because of the continued support that the Turner family has provided us since 2007, we plan to dedicate the administrative offices in the Warrior and Family Support Center in their honor."

To date, TETCO has donated $220,000 to Returning Heroes Home.

"My grandfather, Tom E. Turner Sr., instilled a patriotic spirit in my entire family, so we have always been huge supporters of the military, and we are grateful to those troops who go abroad during times of war and risk their lives every day to ensure that we enjoy peace and freedom at home," said Jon Turner, TETCO vice chairman.

Returning Heroes Home was established in 2007 to provide comfort and support in the best possible healing environment to our nation's wounded warriors and their families on the long road to recovery.

The Recreational and Therapeutic Park at Fort Sam Houston, which is expected to be completed in spring 2012 depending upon completion of fundraising, will provide expanded physical therapy opportunities for wounded warriors in recovery by adding numerous outdoor fitness opportunities. It also will offer areas for rest and relaxation, as well as an area for families of the wounded to spend time together in an outdoor setting near their living quarters and in a non-public area to provide privacy during their recovery, among others.

TETCO is a San Antonio-based company, owned and operated by the Tom E. Turner family for more than 60 years. C-store operations, construction and equipment sales, fuel system sales and service, petrochemical distribution, and environmental engineering are the company's primary revenue sources, with significant interests in oil and gas exploration, real-estate development, paving and utility construction. TETCO operates in Texas, as well as Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah and Wyoming.
