Valero Raises Record Amount for Children's Miracle Network

Annual fundraiser saw 19% jump in donations

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Valero Corner Stores' annual fundraiser for Children's Miracle Network raised nearly $1.9 million to be donated to 32 children's hospitals in areas where Valero Corner Stores operate, the company has announced.

The 2010 campaign's official total of $1,883,171 brings the cumulative total of Valero's involvement over the past 15 years to more than $12 million, it said.

Each year, the stores raise money from customers' contributions, whether as deposited coins in change canisters or through their purchase of balloon-shaped cards for $1. The donations [image-nocss] are used to provide charitable care, purchase life-saving equipment and fund research and education programs that save and improve the lives of 17 million children each year.

"This is a big achievement, setting this new record at a time when our economy is still recovering from recession and children's needs are greater than ever," said Gary Arthur, president of Valero's Retail Marketing Division. "I want to thank our field management and community-minded store associates for their hard work and enthusiasm in carrying out their campaigns and raising these much-needed funds. And, most of all, we are very grateful for the generosity of our valued customers, without whom this record result could not have been achieved."

San Antonio, Texas-based Valero owns and operates nearly 1,000 Corner Stores in Texas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Wyoming. It is also one of the largest retail operators with approximately 5,800 retail and branded wholesale outlets in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean under the Valero, Diamond Shamrock, Shamrock, Ultramar and Beacon brands.

Valero Energy is an international manufacturer and marketer of transportation fuels, other petrochemical products and power. Its assets include 15 petroleum refineries with a combined throughput capacity of approximately 2.8 million barrels per day, 10 ethanol plants with a combined production capacity of 1.1 billion gallons per year, and a 50-megawatt wind farm.
