"With the gas shortage and high prices, we pushed 'Gas Day' back a month and were afraid we might have to cancel it," Shirley Woodcock, executive vice president of Sweetwater Valley Oil, told the newspaper. "[image-nocss] We believe with the recent drop in gas prices this will be a great year for everyone to participate."
Customers buy gasoline at one of 14 Valley Mart locations in McMinn and Meigs counties. There will be "gas cans" at several locations for extra donations, which are not required, said the report.
United Way will also offer full-service fuel pumping at three full-service Valley Mart/BP locations in Athens.
United Way Executive Director Stephanie Linkous said "Gas Day" is an event in which everyone can participate. "It's as easy as just putting gas in your car," Linkous told the paper. "With the low price of gas, we hope we have a great turnout."
