Valley Mart Helping United Way

Donating five cents per gallon to local organization
SOUTH ATHENS, Tenn. -- Sweetwater Valley Oil Co. and Valley Mart Convenience Stores have teamed up with the United Way of McMinn and Meigs Counties to offer a gasoline price deal. On November 14 and November 15, for every gallon of gasoline purchased, Sweetwater Valley Oil will donate five cents toward United Way's 2009 Campaign, reported The Daily Post Athenian.

"With the gas shortage and high prices, we pushed 'Gas Day' back a month and were afraid we might have to cancel it," Shirley Woodcock, executive vice president of Sweetwater Valley Oil, told the newspaper. "[image-nocss] We believe with the recent drop in gas prices this will be a great year for everyone to participate."

Customers buy gasoline at one of 14 Valley Mart locations in McMinn and Meigs counties. There will be "gas cans" at several locations for extra donations, which are not required, said the report.

United Way will also offer full-service fuel pumping at three full-service Valley Mart/BP locations in Athens.

United Way Executive Director Stephanie Linkous said "Gas Day" is an event in which everyone can participate. "It's as easy as just putting gas in your car," Linkous told the paper. "With the low price of gas, we hope we have a great turnout."
