7-Eleven and Mondelez Collaborate for Halloween

Sour Patch Kids Zombie candies are available exclusively at the retailer for a limited time only

IRVING, Texas -- 7-Eleven has partnered with Mondelez International to launch the confectioner’s new Sour Patch Kids Zombie candies for Halloween—a holiday that is expected to garner nearly $3 billion of consumers’ candy dollars this year, according to the National Confectionery Association.

The orange- and grape-flavored candies are available exclusively at various 7-Eleven locations for a limited time only. They come in 5-ounce take-home bags and are available for a suggested retail price of $1.99, or $3 for two.

This isn’t the first time 7-Eleven and Mondelez have teamed up for a Sour Patch Kids promotion. In January 2018, the retailer resurrected the Sour Patch Watermelon Slurpee—the top-selling Slurpee LTO in history—as a flavor variety on its Slurpee dispenser.

"Sour Patch Kids is a perennial favorite of 7-Eleven customers, so we are always eager to work with Mondelez International to create exclusive products and promotions you can't find anywhere else," said Ashley Borden, merchandising senior product director for 7-Eleven. "We think Sour Patch Kids as zombies will scare up sales even more in October with customers planning for and celebrating Halloween."

Consumers who purchase Sour Patch Kinds Zombie candies on Oct. 7—World Zombie Day—with their 7-Eleven app, 7-Eleven card or keychain fob will enter the Sourpocalypse Sweepstakes, a contest through which 10 winners will receive a Zombie Sourpocalypse Survival Kit. This package includes a tablet computer, $100 7-Eleven gift card, $25 iTunes gift card and the actual candy, all stuffed in a Sour Patch Kids-themed backpack. The companies will announce the winners in mid-November.

Deerfield, Ill.-based Mondelez is a leading global snacking company, operating in 160 countries with about $26 billion in net revenue in 2017. Besides Sour Patch Kids, the company’s products include BelVita, Chips Ahoy, Oreo, Nabisco, Cadbury, Jacobs coffee, Tang powdered beverages and Trident gum.

Irving, Texas-based 7-Eleven operates, franchises and/or licenses more than 66,000 stores in 17 countries, including 11,800 in North America. It is No. 1 in CSP’s 2018 Top 202 ranking of c-store chains by number of company-owned retail outlets.
