Hola Nola Acquires Maker of Plocky’s Chips

New Orleans-based company will operate NatureStar’s Chicago-area facility

NEW ORLEANS -- Small-batch, handmade snack producer Hola Nola Foods has acquired the assets of Hinsdale, Ill.-based NatureStar Foods, maker of Plocky's brand hummus chips and tortilla chips, for an undisclosed amount.

Hola Nola will operate NatureStar’s Chicago-area distribution facility to supply customers throughout the Midwest. NatureStar CEO Paul Cipolla will transition to a consultant role with Hola Nola to maintain long-term customer relationships.

"We are excited about adding the Plocky's brand and products to our growing snack food lineup," said Kevin Holden, president of Hola Nola Foods. "Plocky's award-winning hummus chips and tortilla chips, geographic footprint and customer relationships are a great fit, and we look forward to continuing to expand this unique, healthy snack brand."

The acquisition comes at the heels of Hola Nola expanding its product repertoire. In February, the tortilla-chip manufacturer launched its Red Beans & Rice Chips in all Rouses Markets in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

"After 30 years building the Plocky's snack brand, I began looking for a company that could not only continue the brand but expand it beyond the Midwest,” Cipolla said. "I feel Hola Nola Foods is the ideal organization to fulfill that goal."

New Orleans-based Hola Nola Foods creates small-batch, handmade products such as chips, tortillas, spices, salsas and dips, all made with non-GMO corn and coconut oil. Besides Plocky’s and Red Beans & Rice Chips, the brand’s chip flavors include Creole, Blue Corn, Authentic and No Salt.
