Hola Nola Puts the South in New Tortilla Chip

Line extension launches in 3 states

NEW ORLEANS -- The Big Easy is bringing its traditions to the snacking category. On Feb. 12, tortilla-chip manufacturer Hola Nola Foods launched its Red Beans & Rice Chips. The new product is now available in all Rouses Markets in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

The chips' ingredients include Camellia Brand red beans, whole-grain rice and Crystal Hot Sauce, and the chips are packaged in microwavable bags to be eaten warm.

"We wanted to marry the growing interest in traditional Mexican ingredients with a classic local dish,” said Kevin Holden, founder of Hola Nola Foods. "There's also considerable interest in snacks made with simple ingredients but delivering bold flavor profiles. We've managed to accomplish both goals with these chips.”

New Orleans-based Hola Nola Foods creates small-batch, handmade products such as chips, tortillas, spices, salsas and dips, all made with non-GMO corn and coconut oil. Besides the new Red Beans & Rice Chips, its other chip flavors include Creole, Blue Corn, Authentic and No Salt. Hola Nola Foods is Louisiana's only tortilla and tortilla-chip producer, the company said. It was founded in 2013.

Camellia Brand, also based in New Orleans, packages 18 varieties of dried beans, peas and lentils. The company’s red kidney beans are the top-selling red bean in the United States, according to Nielsen research.
