Kellogg's Stirs Team USA Excitement

Promotion invites c-store customers to text-to-win

ELMHURST, Ill. -- As gymnasts fly through the air on the way to gold, so are some special packages of snacks positioned to fly off the shelves at convenience stores this month.

The 2016 Summer Olympics are well underway in Rio, and Kellogg's Win Gold is a special promotion tied to the games. Other products with Olympics promotions include Budweiser, Chobani, Coca-Cola, Hershey's, Procter & Gamble and J.M. Smucker.

“The spirit of the Olympics is contagious,” said Gavin Bowyer, Kellogg's senior director of morning foods and bars. “The ceremonies, the games, athletes from around the world, and of course the spectators and fans—everyone wants to be a part of the Olympics. Now with Kellogg’s Win Gold promotion, everyone can participate for a chance to win gold.”

Consumers are invited to share what motivates them to get going every day and text to enter for a chance to win a $50 Visa card. The company's national consumer advertising campaign features athletes telling about their drive to make it to their first U.S. Olympic or Paralympic Games for Team USA.

Select packages offer the Olympics promotion through August, with entries due by the end of the year. Core Kellogg’s products, including Pop-Tarts, Rice Krispies Treat Bars, Nutri-Grain Bars and Special K Protein Bars, as well as Fruit Loops, Frosted Flakes and Raisin Brand Crunch cereals, carry the promotion and are available at convenience retailers. Kellogg provides retailers with posters, table tents and wobblers to drive purchases.

Battle Creek, Mich.-based Kellogg is a leading cereal company, the second largest producer of cookies, crackers and savory snacks and a leading North American frozen foods company. The company's convenience-store division is based in Elmhurst, Ill.
