WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. is putting a green twist on its Original Glazed Doughnut for St. Patrick’s Day weekend at participating Krispy Kreme locations in the United States and Canada.
Available March 16 and 17, the O’riginal Glazed Doughnut will be made with green dough before being topped with the doughnuts' usual hot glaze. The chain is encouraging customers to show their St. Patrick’s Day pride and green doughnuts via social media by using the hashtag #GreenDoughnuts.
“Krispy Kreme O’riginal Glazed Doughnuts are fun to eat all on their own, so we thought there is no better way to dial up the fun than going green for St. Patrick’s Day,” said Jackie Woodward, chief marketing officer for Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. “We know many people also celebrate the holiday Friday, so we’re making the O’riginal Glazed Doughnuts available that day, too.”
This isn’t the first time Krispy Kreme has revealed a limited-edition flavor. In January of this year, the chain said it will release a lemon glaze doughnut as a limited-time-offer (LTO) for a week this spring. The company’s #VoteForGlaze campaign, which compiled millions of votes over the course of a week, allowed customers to pick the new flavor. And in December 2016, the company launched its Nutty Cocoa Ring Doughnut with Nutella hazelnut spread, which was Krispy Kreme’s first Nutella-based product released in the United States.
Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Krispy Kreme has offered doughnuts and coffee since its founding in 1937. The doughnuts are in about 12,000 grocery, convenience and mass merchant stores in the United States, and the company has more than 1,300 retail shops in 31 countries.
