Thorntons Expanding Bakery Line

Offering free doughnut promotion through early March

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Thorntons Inc. will begin offering a new line of freshly baked doughnuts Wednesday at its Louisville, Ky., and southern Indiana locations, according to a report by Business First of Louisville.

The gasoline convenience store chain is making the change as part of a revamp of its bakery selections, said the report.

In January, it began offering a new selection of cookies, including a gourmet oatmeal cookie, a triple chocolate chip cookie made with Hershey's chocolate, and a peanut butter cookie made with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, the report said.

In March, the company plans to further expand its bakery offerings by adding butter croissants, pretzel croissants, blueberry muffins and danishes to the bakery menu, added Business First.

"Our customers count on us to continually evolve to meet their on-the-go needs, and that includes foodservice," Tony Harris, chief operating officer of Thorntons, said in a news release cited by the newspaper. "With our new bakery line, we guarantee customers will be delighted by the enhancements to our morning menu."

Thorntons new doughnut flavors include cookies and creme, topped with Oreo crumbles, and peanut butter and jelly made with Reese's peanut butter cups.

To celebrate the launch, Thorntons will offer customers a free donut with a drink purchase, said the report. The offer will run through March 5.

Louisville-based Thorntons is a leading independent gasoline and convenience chain currently operating throughout the Midwest. With more than $2.3 billion in revenue, it is the largest privately held corporation in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Thorntons operates 165 gasoline and convenience stores, car washes and travel plazas in five states: Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee. Thorntons distributes its petroleum products through its wholly owned Thornton Transportation Co. and operates a river bulk storage terminal in Louisville.
