FDA Director Zeller to Speak at 2015 NATO Show

Will discuss proposed regulations and the agency’s regulatory agenda
MINNEAPOLIS -- Mitch Zeller, the Director of the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products, is making a return appearance and will be speaking and participating in a panel discussion at the upcoming 2015 NATO Show to be held at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas on April 22-23, 2015. The 2015 NATO Show will be an excellent opportunity for retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers to learn first hand from Director Zeller about the status of the FDA’s proposed tobacco deeming regulations, other regulatory actions, and research on tobacco products that the FDA is pursuing.

Besides hearing from the Director Zeller, the educational seminar line up for the 2015 NATO Show truly focuses on the most important product and regulatory issues facing tobacco retailers today. The educational sessions begin with Dr. Brad Rodu, a Professor of Medicine at the University of Louisville, explaining e-cigarette use from a health perspective and why the health community should be embracing non-combustible nicotine delivery devices and supporting their use.

Another option for attendees is a “Fast Take on Cigars” which is a fast-paced instructive session by a retail, wholesale and manufacturer panel on the best practices for the growing cigar category. Then, a general session is devoted to the vapor and e-cigarette categories with leading manufacturers explaining the marketplace landscape for both vaping and e-cigarette use.

On the second day of the NATO Show, the general session includes Don Burke of Management Science Associates making sense of consumer trends, economic and political indicators and the impact on the retail segment of the industry. Then, NATO Executive Thomas Briant provides his signature review of local and state tobacco legislation as well as an update on FDA regulations.

The final general session is reserved for FDA Director Mitch Zeller who will speak on current and proposed FDA regulations and the agency’s regulatory agenda and then be a member of a panel with Jim Dillard, the Senior Vice-President of Regulatory Affairs for Altria and Daniel McGee, the General Counsel of General Cigar Co. The panel format will allow for a more in-depth reaction to Director Zeller’s presentation as well as an in-depth discussion on other FDA regulatory issues.

From an educational point of view, the 2015 NATO Show is second to none in providing attendees the information and knowledge they need to survive and thrive in today’s tobacco marketplace.
