NEW YORK -- As cigarette sales volume declined 4% in the four weeks ending March 25, gains in smokeless and other tobacco products are lighting a fire in the overall category, according to all-channel data from New York-based Nielsen.
Smokeless tobacco, electronic cigarettes and cigar dollar sales and, in many cases, unit volumes were all up, reported Bonnie Herzog, managing director of beverage, tobacco and convenience-store research, for Wells Fargo Securities LLC, New York.
