Buc-ee’s Mural Provides Opportunity for Young Artists

A group of 10 Blank Spaces interns spent their spring break painting a wall with a “Welcome to Buc-ee’s” mural at the chain’s Amarillo, Texas, convenience store, the Amarillo Globe-News reported. The local nonprofit provides opportunities for young artists to install large-scale murals and curate and manage a local art gallery while contributing to civic beautification, according to its website. Interns work alongside professional artists to learn all aspects of mural painting including working with property owners, design conception, materials, application, budget and preservation. They are taught to collaborate with other artists, neighborhood residents, schools and communities. This is the organization’s 96th project. California Has 48% More EV Chargers Than Gasoline Nozzles

California now has 48% more public and shared private EV chargers than the number of gasoline nozzles, according to the California Energy Commission, which estimates there are about 120,000 gas nozzles in the state, compared to 178,000 public and shared private chargers. “We’re embracing our clean car future and providing consumers more choices—no matter what ‘big government’ mandates come out of Washington,” said California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D). California has approved a $1.4 billion investment plan to expand its charging and hydrogen network. The investment plan funds projects like the Fast Charge California Project, which is a part of the California Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project (CALeVIP). This project will award $55 million to install EV fast-charging stations at businesses and publicly accessible locations across the state. In addition to the state’s commitment to improving EV infrastructure, thousands of dollars in grants and rebates are available for low-income Californians. —Rachel Gignac
